Motor Madness
In the world of Pokemon, "Rotom" is widely regarded as one of the most well-established and heavily integrated creatures due to its ability to enter different electrical appliances and control them. Despite this, Rotom has never had an officially established location or store throughout any of the games for people to easily change between forms, so I took it upon myself to conceptualize a full brand identity for this hypothetical store.
I wanted to make the animation very playful due to the source material while still maintaining a level of professionalism since this was created as a real-life extension of the series. Each and every element flows perfectly into each other using different techniques such as match cuts for the transitions while emphasizing the movement with hand-drawn lightning flourishes and carefully crafted sound design.
Logotype
I wanted to capture the essence of Rotom in a way that was subtle while still clearly drawing inspiration from its design. The lightning bolt fits perfectly in the negative space of the “R” and is mirrored to the other side for both symmetry and to more accurately capture the essence of the character it is based on.
The font Ballbase was chosen due to its rigid, mechanical characteristics that were perfectly suited for both typographic manipulation and precise animation.
Rotom Designs
To match the visual aesthetic of the logo design, I ensured that the all of the accompanying illustrative materials would follow the same design language.
Despite typically consisting of more natural, curved shapes, I crafted these six Rotom forms using solely harsh geometric angles to better coincide with the rigid right-angles of the logomark.
Geometric Breakdown
This is a simple visual breakdown of the angular design to further illustrate its geometric nature.
All six of the character designs were meticulously illustrated as such.
Sticker Designs
I wanted to show further real-life application of the designs by creating sticker mockups in Photoshop.
Since this was a personal project, I decided to document it for my personal YouTube channel - feel free to check it out if you want a more in-depth run through of the process!
